Final character reference and 3D model:
Work in progress screenshots:
Mascot reference sheet and 3D model for Venice Community Cleanups, a Los Angeles based 501(c)3 non-profit. After me and the founding team developed the non-profit's brand strategy, I began the visual development of mascot designing. Originally designing a sea otter character, I realized I'd never seen a live sea otter, on Venice Beach. The most prevalent animal living on L.A. beaches were sea lions, they happen to also be native to Venice. That was the answer for us. I gave him a life-preserver so fellow beach combers & cleaners would "know" he's part of the cleanup movement, and I gave him a straw sun hat to protect his noggin from the C.A. sun. Turning him into a 3D model was a lot of fun, and I'm currently developing more poses and illustrations for the non-profit, too.
